Why Can’t We Play Too?
Being someone who has never fully grown up I am a great advocate of playing. What I mean by never fully growing up (as I own my own house, I run a business and make sensible decisions from time to time) is I still love to play.
I love being in the outdoors, dancing, riding my bicycle, yoga and rollerskating. I am not saying there is anything wrong with going to the gym, but why is that the first thing people think of when they think of getting active, fit and healthier? Unless you really do enjoy going to the gym why not try something different, something that brings you joy?
Why can’t being active and healthy mean play and enjoyment?
Working in early years physical development, we constantly look at the benefits of being active, which includes:
- Obviously, being physical healthy
- Brain development
- Learning through enjoyable, engaging activities
- Development of social skills
- Development of resilience, self-esteem and confidence
I could go on and on…
The funny thing is, this really does apply to us adults too.
So why don’t you try something new and if you don’t enjoy it after a few goes, try something else, until you find that thing that really gets you.
